Mike Williams ($5,600)
The master of the jump ball, Mike Williams, is trying to get his career back on track in the Big Apple. The massive receiver spent the first seven years of his career across the country with the Chargers, sporting a pair of 1,000-yard campaigns. He’s never been able to separate at a high level, but he can push the field vertically and use his 6’4 frame to pluck the ball out of the sky with ease.
At age 30, coming off a torn ACL, Williams looks to have lost a step athletically. Williams’ has never been particularly fast, but his long, powerful strides were tough to contain. His involvement is worrisome considering the volume the Jets have slung the rock in recent weeks, but as a WR3, his involvement will be spotty at best.
Buffalo’s physical corners have stifled pass catchers on the outside, but Williams’ size could make him an intriguing option in this matchup. He’s a calculated shot in the dark, but it’s a necessary risk in a game with so many high-end stars.
Ty Johnson ($5,200)
Backup running backs are an emotional roller coaster but offer sneaky fantasy value. Ty Johnson is a journeyman in the making, a former sixth-round pick from Maryland who has yet to carve out a consistent role in any of his destinations. He packs a punch, but with 4.4 speed, he can get to the edge quickly and be a threat past the hashes.
Johnson gets reps on third down as an underrated blocker and threat with his hands out of the backfield. He provides a change of pace compared to starter James Cook ($10,200), which offers him a viable floor. The latter has been dealing with a toe injury, which could help Johnson see a bump in touches. He’s already coming off his highest snap count of the season, so don’t be surprised if he gets even more looks this outing.
Tyler Conklin ($4,000)
A few weeks ago, I analyzed the state of the tight-end position and offered reasons to be optimistic. Sure enough, there’s been a resurgence with offenses starting to click around the league. I mentioned Tyler Conklin as a name due for a bounceback, and he’s flashed signs of DFS relevancy.
Across his last three contests, the veteran has tallied 23 targets, inserting himself in contention for the Jets‘ second-best receiving threat behind Garrett Wilson ($10,000). He’s been the team’s security blanket underneath when plays break down. The 29-year-old does the bulk of his work over the middle but has enough mobility to rack up yards after the catch. At this salary, Conklin is my favorite value play of the contest.
