If you’ve been waiting to get on board for The Penguin, now is the time. Episode four is in position to be a wild ride.
We’ll look back at how things got so out of control in a moment, but let’s first prepare for episode four of The Penguin.
This HBO show is hitting Max at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Sundays. Therefore, the fourth episode of The Penguin will become available on Sunday, October 13 at 9 p.m.
Timing notes
Episode three split the difference between the first two episodes, clocking in at an hour.
The first two episodes had an 11-minute range, so there’s a lot of room for episode four of The Penguin to work within. Given it’s been such a wide range already, there shouldn’t be more than a two-minute increase or decrease in the minimum/maximum episode length, respectively, until the finale.

- All bets are off. Penguin has been found out by the Maronis, who outed him to Sofia Falcone. If not for his right-hand man, Victor Aguilar, having a last-minute change of heart, Oz would be dead. Now, the pair is in the wind after they left Sofia alone with a bloodied group of Maronis.
- We learned about Victor’s past, along with his chance at a new future. But rather than move on, he stayed loyal to his boss. Executive producer Lauren LeFrance said in a clip after episode three that she views Victor as the show’s heart. That has very much come across throughout the start of the series. But with his decision to stick to crime when he had an out, it’s hard to not wonder if this character can descend further. Especially if Oz winds up betraying him to save his own skin. With the character sharing a first name with another grounded DC villain (Victor Zsasz) and The Penguin’s creative team changing Oz’s last name from Cobblepot to Cobb, there’s room for Victor to fall harder than anyone on this show.
- We finally learned about Sofia’s new drug, Bliss, which she got from her time at Arkham. While Bliss is a response to the events of The Batman, this drug also feels like a poetic opposite to Scarecrow’s Fear Gas, which is seen frequently in the comics and was prominently featured in 2005’s Batman Begins.
