Looks like we’ll have to wait at least one more week to see the return for Nick Chubb, as the running back has been ruled out for Week 6’s contest against the Eagles.
Chubb has been practicing in a limited capacity since his 21-day window was opened last week, but the Browns have chosen to be cautious with their Pro Bowl RB. It’s difficult to blame them, as Chubb is attempting to return from a vicious knee injury suffered all the way back on September 18 of 2023. According to head coach Kevin Stefanski, Chubb is “building on every single day.”
With Chubb once again watching from the sideline, Cleveland’s backfield should look very similar to what we’ve already seen for five weeks. Jerome Ford will get a majority of the snaps and the touches with D’Onta Foreman also getting work. Ford’s logged at least a 75.0% snap share in three of the Browns’ five games this season, yet that’s yet to lead to much fantasy relevance. In fact, despite sitting inside the Top 25 in the NFL in touches (68), Ford hasn’t found the end zone since all the way back in Week 1. However, that might say more about Cleveland’s offensive struggles in general than it does about Ford’s skill. The team ranks dead-last in the league in red zone trips per contest (1.6).
The Eagles haven’t been stout against the run in 2024, surrendering 128.8 opponent rushing yards per game. Still, with a dire lack of touchdown expectancy, it’s hard to consider Ford much more than a high-volume RB2.
