Missing practice Thursday for the second consecutive day, Robinson Jr. ($6,400) is trending towards missing this Sunday’s matchup with the Ravens.
If that ends up being the case, Ekeler ($5,600) and Jeremy McNichols ($4,500) will both see more work for the Commanders, with Ekeler being the better option between the two.
Ekeler has ranked second behind Robinson Jr. in snap percentage among the Commanders’ backs this season at 42%, while McNichols has only played 19.5% of the snaps. Ekeler and McNichols are close in carries, at 19-16, respectively, but most of McNichols’ work has come in garbage time when Washington has blown out their opponent. For some perspective, the back has recorded eight and seven the carries the past two weeks, but both of these games were 20+ point wins for the Commanders and 11 of those 15 carries for McNichols have come in the second half of those contests.
Ekeler should have the upper hand in rushes if Robinson sits—Ekeler is averaging a career-best 7.9 yards per carry this season—and also the edge in the passing game. Ekeler has always been a vital asset as a receiver throughout his career and this season has been no different, with him garnering a target on 20% of his routes this season, while McNichols has only seen one target on his 18 routes.
Competing in the second-highest total of Week 6 at the 51.5 points on the DraftKings Sportsbook, Ekeler will bring an awesome ceiling if Robinson sits this Sunday, and he will be the clear choice between him and McNichols.
