Rashid Shaheed ($5,600) missed practice for the second day in a row Thursday with a hip injury.
Shaheed assured the media that he’d be fine for game time, but missing practice Thursday is never a positive sign for a player’s availability, and if Shaheed is inactive for the first time this season this Sunday vs. the Buccaneers, there will be plenty of targets up for grabs.
Shaheed is leading the Saints with a 26.2% target share this season, while running a route on 88% of dropbacks. The wideout has seen two redzone targets and he is tied for the most targets over 20 yards in the league with 11.
Chris Olave ($6,600) has handled a 21.5% target share this season and if Shaheed is sidelined, Olave should naturally soak up more usage, especially as a deep threat and lead New Orleans in targets. His matchup is also excellent, with Tampa Bay being a zone heavy defense that is surrendering the third-most catches (82) and fifth-most yards to receivers (879).
The problem is Derek Carr (oblique) won’t be under center for the Saints and instead, it will be rookie Spencer Rattler ($4,000) at the helm. The quarterback threw for over 3,000 yards and at least 18 touchdowns in each of his final two seasons at South Carolina, but he has yet to play an NFL snap this season.
Rattler did have some positive words to say about Olave: “Dude’s different. I make it a key point when he’s in, get him the ball. It’s that simple”. But, it’s difficult envisioning the fifth-round pick not struggling in his NFL debut.
Strong usage is going to be there for Olave if Shaheed sits, but his floor is shaky with Rattler throwing him passes. Olave is still worth starting in your season-long leagues either way, but for DFS, he is a GPP play only.
