Can the Mets go all the way?

Prior to the start of the season, not much was expected from the Mets. Their win total was 81.5 and the odds of winning the NL Pennant were +2800. For the World Series? +5500. That got Lloyd Christmas to smile from ear to ear.

That smile was turned upside down, though, as New York started the season 28-37.

Then June 12th happened, a date that will live in infamy for Mets Nation. That is the day Grimace threw out the first pitch at Citi Field and the streak towards the playoff began. New York went on to win the next seven games and finished the first half three games above .500 at 49-46.

The momentum carried on into the second half and the Mets made a late charge to grab one of the Wild Card slots.

In the Wild Card series against Milwaukee, the Brewers were slight favorites to win the series at -130. New York was +110. Things looked bleak for the Mets, as the Brewers had a 2-0 lead in the ninth inning of Game 3, but Pete Alonso delivered a massive three-run home run to send the Mets to the NLDS.

Now the Mets had to face the Philadelphia Phillies, a team that comfortably won the NL East by six games, but won the head-to-battle by only 7-6 during the regular season. Regardless, they entered as the favorites at -185 to win the series while the Mets were +150.

But New York, and their deal with the devil in disguise that is the Grimace, took care of business by winning three of four games to advance to the NLCS, where they will either face the San Diego Padres or Los Angeles Dodgers. As of this writing, the Padres are up 2-1 in the series and have a chance to clinch on Wednesday.

DK Sportsbook currently has the Mets as favorites to win the National League at +120. The Padres are at +125 while the Dodgers are at +500. San Diego is the favorite to win the World Series, though, at +300. The Mets are right behind at +330.
