After a weekend of huge upsets, there is a new team atop the power rankings. Here are my national power rankings heading into Week 7.
I will do a top-25 college football power rankings every week for the duration of the regular season. These power rankings will be based on where every team stands at the current moment, not a prediction of where these teams will be at the end of the season. The team’s ranking from the week prior will be in parenthesis next to its current ranking.
#1- Texas (2)
Texas has finally made it to No. 1 in my power rankings for the first time this season. It was a bye week for Texas but when the No. 1 team loses, the No. 2 team slides up into that top spot.
#2- Ohio State (3)
Ohio State also bumped up a spot after another convincing win this week, this one over Iowa. The Buckeyes have a massive game with Oregon on deck, which will be their toughest game of the season so far.
#3- Georgia (7)
Georgia bounced back from its loss to Alabama with a solid performance against Auburn and it is moving back up in the power rankings. I still believe the Bulldogs are the most talented team in the country.
#4- Penn State (5)
Penn State isn’t looking particularly dominant but it just keeps winning and replacing teams that do lose in the power rankings. It has a big game against USC this weekend.
#5- Miami (6)
Miami mounted its second-straight dramatic fourth-quarter comeback to beat Cal last weekend. This week it has a bye week and can mentally recover from the wild two weeks it has had.
#6- Oregon (8)
Oregon rolled over Michigan State last week ahead of its huge showdown with Ohio State this weekend.
#7- Alabama (1)
After upsetting No. 1 Georgia to move up to No. 1 in the power rankings themselves, the Crimson Tide lost to Vanderbilt in one of the most shocking results in modern college football history.
#8- Clemson (10)
After its opening loss, Clemson has won every game by double digits. It looks to be the only real challenger to Miami in the ACC.
#9- Ole Miss (14)
Ole Miss dropped in the power rankings two weeks ago after its loss to Kentucky but bounced back strong with a win over South Carolina. It has another pivotal matchup against LSU this week.
#10- Tennessee (4)
The Volunteers were another top team that got upset last weekend. They were taken down by Arkansas and dropped accordingly in this week’s power rankings. They play Florida this weekend in another tough SEC game.
#11- Iowa State (11)
Iowa State has flown pretty under the radar as they are still undefeated, including a big non-conference win over Iowa. It has a massive conference game against West Virginia this weekend.
#12- Notre Dame (17)
Their season looked doomed after the massive upset loss to Northern Illinois, but the Fighting Irish have bounced back strong. It has also been the season of upsets in college football, so the Fighting Irish have climbed back up the power rankings.
#13- Indiana (20)
Indiana has had the biggest turnaround in college football this year. It dominated Northwestern to move to 6-0 as it heads into its bye week.
#14- LSU (16)
LSU has been undefeated since its opening week loss to USC. The Tigers now face their toughest test yet as they take on Ole Miss this weekend.
#15- BYU (15)
BYU is another Big 12 team flying under the radar. It has a major conference matchup against Arizona this weekend.
#16- Boise State (18)
Boise State steamrolled Utah State over the weekend thanks to another monster performance from RB Ashton Jeanty. The Broncos are the favorites to get the Group of Five automatic bid to the College Football Playoff.
#17- Utah (19)
Utah has had a strange season. The Utes have been without QB Cam Rising for over a month now but have only suffered one loss during that time. They can still win the Big 12 but they need their quarterback to return as soon as possible.
#18- Kansas State (21)
Kansas State is another one of these feisty Big 12 teams. The Wildcats have a high-profile matchup with Colorado this weekend as they look to prove themselves to a national audience.
#19- Texas A&M (NR)
The Aggies are back on track after losing their season opener to Notre Dame. They picked up a big win over Missouri over the weekend and have a pretty reasonable schedule until their game against Texas to end the season.
#20- SMU (NR)
SMU knocked off Louisville to assert itself as the third-best team in the ACC behind Miami and Clemson.
#21- Missouri (9)
Missouri had survived a couple of scares early on in the season but finally lost one to Texas A&M. The Tigers have a really easy schedule compared to the rest of the SEC but they will need to go undefeated to make the College Football Playoff at this rate.
#22- Nebraska (NR)
Nebraska held on against Rutgers in a tough conference matchup and still has just one loss as it heads into its bye week.
#23- Illinois (23)
Illinois had a bye week last week so it stays put at No. 23, but it has a very winnable game against Purdue up next.
#24- Navy (NR)
It has been an amazing season for Navy so far. It has revamped its offense and is off to an undefeated start to the season. Navy is turning into a real threat to make the College Football Playoff.
#25- Pittsburgh (NR)
Pitt beat UNC and is now only the fourth ACC team in the power rankings. It has a competitive matchup with Cal ahead this weekend.
