Tyler Lockett ($8,100 Showdown) has seen his fantasy production decrease each of the last three seasons and the 32-year-old has put up modest numbers so far this year, producing just 9.9 FPTS per game. Lockett has yet to find the end zone in five games and, among receivers, the veteran ranks 51st in FPTS per game and 61st in FPTS per snap.
The decreased production has been a product of Lockett’s role reducing, as Jaxon Smith-Njigba ($7,000) takes on a more prominent role in his second season for the Seahawks. Smith-Njiba’s target share has reached a career-high 21% this season, while Lockett has seen a 16.5% target share, after handling a rate north of 20% in each of the previous five seasons. In his 10th season, Lockett is also on the field less, with him running a route on 81% of his team’s drop backs this season, which is a solid drop from the 87% route rate he handled a year ago.
Lockett ranks 126th among receivers in yards after catch (56) — which is a concerning sign that his age may be finally catching up to him — and it’s hard to imagine he performs well this Thursday vs. the 49ers. San Francisco is the sixth-highest graded defense on PFF and they have given up the fifth-fewest receptions to opposing wide receivers this season (49).
Unless you’re in a very deep format, Lockett is worth sitting this week and, if seeking a receiver to start over him off the waiver wire, Michael Wilson from the Cardinals has plenty of appeal and is available in most leagues.
