With Rashee Rice (knee) sidelined, Xavier Worthy ($9,000) is in a great position to have a big performance Monday vs. the Saints. Rice was the third-most targeted receiver in the NFL before he got hurt in Week 4 and with him only available for 6% of the snaps last week, Worthy hauled in three of his four targets for 73 yards and a touchdown vs. the Chargers, resulting in 16.3 FPTS.
This wasn’t an easy matchup, with Los Angeles the sixth-highest graded defense on PFF this season and with Rice unavailable for essentially the whole contest, Worthy ran a route on a season-high 89% of Patrick Mahomes’ ($11,000) dropbacks. The rookie ranked second only to Travis Kelce ($8,600) in routes and prior to the victory, Worthy hadn’t handled a route rate higher than 70%.
Rice’s absence clearly vaults Worthy into a full-time role and his upside is tremendous until Rice returns. This season, the 21-year-old has already seen three end-zone targets and four targets greater than 20 yards, both of which are team highs for Kansas City. Worthy brings elite speed – he clocked in at 21.46 MPH during his 54-yard touchdown last week, which is the fourth-fastest speed recorded in the NFL this season – and his 17.11 yards per reception ranks 11th among wideouts this season.
Worthy is producing a terrific 3.31 FPTS per touch and this New Orleans defense he is facing Monday is allowing the ninth-most yards to receivers this season (654). Mahomes and Worthy should connect on a few big plays in this matchup and the rookie finding the end zone for the fourth time this season is absolutely a possibility.
On top of being a strong starter for all season-long formats and Showdown contests Monday night, attacking Worthy to go over his 42.5-yard receiving line on the DraftKings Sportsbook is a smart move.
