Saints-Chiefs Preview: Monday Night Football picks, trends to know

Published:

After scoring over 40 points in both Weeks 1 and 2, New Orleans hasn’t even put up 40 points between Weeks 3 and 4 combined. That could help with a system that’s in play on Monday, but that’s for later in this Saints-Chiefs preview.

We’re going to look through this game’s betting splits and other pertinent information to see how everyone is approaching this contest on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Game splits

Moneyline

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn the favored Chiefs (-230) are the most popular moneyline bet in this game, even with those odds. But just because Kansas City picks account for 69% of the moneyline bets for this game, it doesn’t mean that’s where the majority of the money has gone.

The Chiefs moneyline picks only account for 40% of the moneyline handle. That means 31% of moneyline bets have been in the Saints’ favor (+190), and those picks have accounted for 60% of the moneyline handle.

Spread

There isn’t much of a sharp lean with the spread. On 38% of the spread bets, the Chiefs have seen 39% of the spread handle.

As for the spread’s movement, this game open at 6.5. It’s gone as low as 4.5, but it’s currently settled in at 5.5.

Total

This opened at 45 and hasn’t made its way back up to 44 since. It seems the total is waffling between 43 and 43.5 after going as low as 42.

The sustained decrease from 45 tracks when looking at the splits. On just 28% of the game-total bets, under bets have accounted for 42% of the game-total handle.

Systems in play

Speaking of the total, there’s a game-total system in play on Monday.

This season, the under is 8-7 when an AFC favorite is facing an NFC underdog. Of course, that rate isn’t doing much for us. However, if a bettor took the under in every regular season game from 2021 to 2023, they’d be 88-42-1.

The system hasn’t been solid to start the season, but its performance over the last three seasons indicates the play is due to bounce back.
