Jauan Jennings got us all excited when he caught 11-of-12 targets for 175 yard and three touchdowns in Week 3.
He’s not a burner, as the 40 time is only 4.72, but at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he can Moss defenders. But the Rams pass defense is one of the worst in the league, 31st in both success rate allowed and Pass EPA. In addition, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle did not play in this one.
Jennings played a season-high 85% of the snaps against the Rams and ran 27 routes. In the other four games, he was limited to the mid-50s and ran 18, 29, 18 and 23 routes. With Samuel and Kittle back for Weeks 4 and 5, Jennings only received six and four targets, converting those into three catches for 88 yards and one catch for 13 yards.
Jennings is 27 years old, was a seventh round pick and is currently in his fourth NFL season. Targets are earned, yet his high is 56 in a season and didn’t reach 40 targets in the other two. Brandon Aiyuk, Samuel and Kittle are ahead of him on the target totem pole, so as long as they are active, he’s a “hope he catches a touchdown” prayer because the target volume just won’t be there.
