Elliott’s ($4,400 for Showdown) role has dwindled as the season has progressed. This past week, the veteran only saw five carries in Dallas’ win over the Giants and he logged a season-low 18% of the snaps. Elliott has now seen single-digit carries in three straight games and over this three-game stretch, he has only handled 29.2% of the Cowboys’ running back carries and he has only scored 3.6 FPTS per game. On the other hand, Rico Dowdle ($8,200) has been Dallas’ clear top back during this span, handling 54.2% of the running back carries for his team. Additionally, Dowdle has run more routes than Elliott and he has out-targeted him 11-6 over the last three weeks.
The Cowboys clearly view Elliott as Dowdle’s backup and the former should continue to play a limited role going forward. This season, Elliott is averaging a career-worst 3.4 yards per carry and he is scoring a lackluster 0.28 FPTS per snap.
Not only is Elliott inefficient and his role starting to diminish, but the 28-year-old is in a terrible spot this Sunday vs. the Steelers. Pittsburgh is the highest-graded defense on PFF this season and they are allowing the second-fewest yards per rush (3.7). The Steelers have only given up one touchdown to running backs this season and Elliott is unplayable in this horrible spot.
On the DraftKings Sportsbook, the Cowboys are three-point road underdogs vs. the Steelers.
