The Cowboys and Steelers renew their decades-old rivalry on Sunday Night Football. Pittsburgh enters the game as a three-point favorite, but Dallas is well-rested after Thursday’s victory over the Giants in Week 4.
With an over/under at 44 points, this one doesn’t have the makings of a high-scoring game. The ‘Boys have been average on offense (14th in yards per game) and the Steelers have one of football’s top defenses. On the bright side for bettors, that should mean plenty of value on anytime touchdown plays.
On Saturday, Dallas placed wide receiver Brandin Cooks on injured reserve with a knee injury. Although CeeDee Lamb will still get plenty of work, there’s now plenty of targets available for the other pass-catchers on Big D. Players like Jalen Tolbert and KaVonte Turpin have had their moments, but neither have shown they can excel as a starter.
If anyone other than Lamb has earned Dak Prescott’s trust, it’s Jake Ferguson. The second-year tight end emerged as a scoring threat last year, trailing only Lamb in red zone targets with 24. However, he has yet to score a touchdown in three games this season.
For all their greatness, the Pittsburgh defense has been average against opposing tight ends. On the year, they’ve allowed the 16th-most fantasy points to a list of tight ends that includes Kyle Pitts, Hayden Hurst, and Greg Dulcich. Other than Pitts, none of those guys are on Ferguson’s level as a receiver.
Should the Steelers contain the explosive Lamb, Prescott will be forced to look for other options. Against a defense that remains relatively untested against tight ends, Ferguson’s scoreless streak could snap. With anytime touchdown odds at +210, this is the best value on the Sunday night slate.
