Captain’s Picks
Justin Fields ($14,700 CP) — Big games are nothing new for the former Ohio State star. Fields had breakthroughs for the Bears. He had busts for the Bears. The busts were because of a battery of bustings. Chicago’s offensive line was terrible. The Steelers’ pass blocking has not been elite, but their 20.5% pressure rate is near the top 10. That number should decrease in Week 5 with the Cowboys missing their key pass rushers. The Cowboys’ starting cornerbacks are questionable to play as well. Fields should build on his strong second half in Week 4 and take another step toward earning the QB1 role.
UTIL Plays
George Pickens ($9,600) — Fields and Pickens are getting in a groove. New Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is getting in a groove. Smith’s reputation has diminished after a disappointing run as the head coach of the Falcons. No one was winning with that roster. Smith got that gig by developing the Titans into a high-scoring offense with Ryan Tannehill at QB. Pickens caught 7-of-11 targets for 113 yards in his fourth game in Smith’s offense. RB Jaylen Warren is out again and RB Cordarrelle Patterson will join him on the sideline. RB Najee Harris ($8,800) rushed for 19 yards on 13 carries in Week 4. Smith likes to run but that does not appear to be an option. Pickens is the pick when Pittsburgh’s running backs are thin.
Aaron Shampklin ($2,000) — This SNF NFL DFS Showdown Slate pick is a walk down Narrative Street. Narratives aside, the Steelers have two running backs out and Najee Harris looks bad. Opportunity knocks. The economist/running back from Harvard who spent time as a middle school substitute teacher never gave up on football. He gets a chance to pay back a team that gave up on him. It doesn’t take a Harvard economics degree to understand the supply of value picks is low and the demand is high for Sunday Night Football DFS. The first-team All-Ivy Leaguer is an Ivy-Leaguer but Najee Harris can’t and shouldn’t take every snap. Shampklin will be out there. Sometimes that’s the best DFS players can do on an NFL DFS Showdown slate.
Ryan Flournoy ($200) — Injuries equal value for SNF NFL DFS Showdown Slate DraftKings value picks. WR Brandin Cooks is out. Sunday could be a big night for WR CeeDee Lamb ($11,800), but he can’t catch every pass. The boss likes Flournoy. Jerry Jones compared Flournoy to Dez Bryant in a radio interview earlier this week. The rookie put together decent stats in FCS. He impressed scouts enough in the Hula Bowl, East-West Shrine Bowl, Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine to be selected by the Cowboys in the sixth round. Lamb echoed Jones’ sentiment in the preseason when Flournoy caught nine receptions for 61 yards and two touchdowns. Could Flournoy be the next Puka Nacua?
Fades
Najee Harris ($8,800) — This is the decision. Harris is priced up given the situation. His salary does not reflect his performance. Arthur Smith likes to run and Harris is the Steelers’ only proven option. Harris has been given plenty of work this season and the work had been respectable until the Steelers’ Week 4 loss to the Colts. The former first-round pick was not given a contract extension in the offseason. There are questions about whether he fits with Smith’s scheme. Harris could be fired up after getting mocked by Colts defenders for being soft. They could be right or Harris could feast on one of the worst run defenses in 2024. This fade will make or break showdown lineups.
THE OUTCOME
This Sunday Night Football clash promises to be a battle of wills, a clash of storied titans. The Steelers, a stalwart in the AFC North, will be looking to bounce back from a tough loss, while the Cowboys, riding high on recent success, will be hungry for another victory. The edge goes to the slightly healthier team playing at home.
Final Score: Pittsburgh Steelers 23, Dallas Cowboys 20
