In Week 4, there was some crossover between which NFL picks against the spread were the most bet on by total handle and total number of bets. This week, there’s no getting cute. The top three teams are the same in both categories.
Below are the three most popular NFL picks against the spread, in order, in both terms of Most Popular by Total Handle and Most Popular by Number of Bets.
No. 1: Minnesota Vikings
Opponent: New York Jets
Opening Line: +1.5
Current Line: -2.5
DraftKings Sportsbook bettors want the next Vikings show set in England to be all about Sam Darnold and Justin Jefferson. Eighty percent of the spread bets for this game have gone in favor of Minnesota covering.
But, there are two other details to note. The Vikings opened as one-point dogs, so some of those bets may have come before the flip. Also, the spread bets on Minnesota only account for 74% of the spread handle. So, there’s a sharp lean toward the Jets covering despite the underdog-to-favorite movement.
No. 2: Baltimore Ravens
Opponent: Cincinnati Bengals
Opening Line: -1
Current Line: -2.5
Baltimore is similar to Minnesota, except the Ravens opened as favorites. Seventy-eight percent of the spread bets from this game have gone toward Baltimore covering. But, those plays have only accounted for 71% of the handle.
No. 3: Washington Commanders
Opponent: Cleveland Browns
Opening Line: -1
Current Line: -3.5
Of this trio, Washington has the most significant gap in splits. Still, one thing remains consistent with this list of NFL picks against the spread. Things aren’t favorable for the team being highlighted.
While the Commanders have accounted for the third-most spread handle of any Week 5 Sunday game, that amount has only accounted for 54% of their game’s handle. Furthermore, that handle percentage was built on 72% of the bets.
So, the Browns have accounted for nearly half of this game’s spread handle on just 28% of this game’s spread bets.
