There have only been two episodes of The Penguin so far, but it’s already been quite the journey. Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti have been outstanding in their roles as Penguin and Sofia Falcone, respectively. Each has made these comic book characters their own while the writers have ensured the source material is still respected.
But more on the characters later. Right now, we need to plan for the third episode of The Penguin.
This HBO show is hitting Max at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Sundays. Therefore, the third episode of The Penguin will become available on Sunday, October 6 at 9 p.m.
Timing notes
After a one-hour, seven-minute show-opener, the second episode of The Penguin was only 56 minutes long. Episodes length can fluctuate with HBO shows a little, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if the remaining six episodes of The Penguin operate within the range these first two episodes have established. Any deviation outside the range would probably be two or three minutes at the most, with a max of one hour and 10 minutes being more likely than a low of 53 minutes.

“Let’s dance.”
- Penguin may have a messed up foot, but does that guy ever know how to pivot. My goodness. There’s still a lot of show left, but it seems like he’s managed to fool everyone into thinking he was not the one who killed Alberto Falcone. Took a lot of improvisation, but he got there.
- Most important of all the people that Penguin needed to convince was the unrelenting Sofia Falcone. He did such a good job that they’re now partners in this dangerous game. While that may be an asset for Penguin in some ways, it’s sure to give him more anxiety and force him to be even better than he’s already been. Especially when it comes to being a double agent for the Maroni family — who, reminder, know that Penguin killed Alberto Falcone, so that subject isn’t entirely dead.
- On the note of Milioti’s Sofia Falcone, we know she’s got some issues, but episode two provided more insight on that front. She is very much feared. But unlike so many in the crime game, she doesn’t want that. (Probably because, in her case, it also comes with an overwhelming amount of judgment.) Among the things we learned about her: she’s still seeing Dr. Julian Rush, who appears to have been one of her doctors at Arkham Asylum. Their relationship seems quite intimate, too.
- Played by Theo Rossi, Dr. Rush is an original character for the show. DC Comics does have some notable doctors of the mind in Jonathan Crane (a.k.a Scarecrow) and Hugo Strange, but a new character allows The Penguin’s creative team to have more wiggle room.
