Should you start Alexander Mattison if Zamir White sits?

After being a limited participant in practice Wednesday due to a groin injury, Zamir White ($5,100) was a non-participant at practice Thursday, which is obviously a concerning sign. The veteran has been very ineffective this season, averaging a career-worst 3.1 yards per carry and with no touchdowns thus far. Mattison, on the other hand, is averaging a career-high 5.1 yards per carry and he has found the end zone three times, twice as a rusher and once as a receiver.

Following the Raiders’ win over the Browns this past Sunday, HC Antonio Pierce told the media that Mattison “deserves more reps, and he’ll get them.”

Well, now with White trending towards being inactive this Sunday, Pierce has even more of a reason to give Mattison a larger role. The ex-Viking should operate as Las Vegas’ top back and, while he is going against a Broncos’ defense that is allowing the ninth-least yards per carry (4.0), Mattison still has upside with his increased opportunity. At 0.42 FPTS per snap, Mattison is more than doubling White’s production this season and he ranks 17th among running backs in that category. Furthermore, Mattison is contributing 1.74 FPTS per touch, which impressively ranks fourth among all running backs.

After his coaches comments and with White beat up, Mattison seems to be a lock for double-digit touches this weekend, making him more than a viable FLEX option for season-long formats, as well as an appealing DFS value to consider.
