Will Davante Adams get traded to the Jets?

Updated:

By: Alex Hunter

Davante Adams reportedly told the Raiders he prefers to be traded on Tuesday and then, on Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Jets and Saints are two teams high on Adams’ lists of destinations.

With this news, odds on which team will trade for Adams have been put on the DraftKings Sportsbook and the Jets are the current betting favorites at -110.

Ever since the day Rodgers joined the Jets, there have been constant rumors about Adams going to New York. Even during a charity golf event this past summer, Rodgers said during an interview that “I love Davante Adams. I can’t wait to play with him again.”

Given Rodgers has a legitimate say on who the Jets acquire, Adams being dealt to New York is the most realistic outcome for this situation, as the odds on the DraftKings Sportsbook suggest. When Rodgers agreed to join New York last season, former teammates Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard were shortly signed to the squad after, and Rodgers is almost surely advocating to the Jets’ front office right now that they need to trade for Adams with the receiver seeking a new home.

When playing together in Green Bay, Rodgers helped Adams become one of the best wideouts in the league. Adams was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his last five seasons with Rodgers and the Packers. During this span, Adams exceeded 1,300 receiving yards three times and he also led the NFL with 18 receiving touchdowns in 2020.

If Adams reunites with Rodgers in New York, both players are going to see boosts to their fantasy stock, as Adams will likely once again become a fantasy superstar as the Jets’ new No. 1 receiver. Yes, Garrett Wilson is an excellent talent, but he and Rodgers have yet to display chemistry that compares to Adams and Rodgers. With at least 117 targets in eight straight seasons coming into this year, Adams is an extremely dominating presence and Wilson would naturally see a notable dip in targets if Rodgers is acquired by the Jets. As would Allen Lazard and Breece Hall.

Not only does the Rodgers’ factor matter, but adding Adams to this subpar Jets’ offense — they rank 19th in PPG — makes a ton of sense for a franchise looking to contend for a Super Bowl in the immediate with Rodgers at 40-years-old.

Attacking the Jets to trade for Adams at -110 on the DraftKings Sportsbook has strong merit. Backing them at -125 odds to make the playoffs is also a sharp move, as that number will undoubtedly shift if Adams is acquired.
