Trade rumors have been swirling around Davante Adams going back as far as last season. However, things took a very real turn on Tuesday morning with a report that the Raiders have begun reaching out to teams to gauge interest in the former All-Pro wideout.
With that in mind, let’s take a look and some possible landing spots for Adams and rank them based on how advantageous that situation might be from a fantasy perspective.
1. Buffalo Bills
Does anyone want to take a guess as to who currently leads the Bills’ receiving corps in snaps through four weeks? If you said Mack Hollins — congratulations! You’re either a devoted Buffalo fan or someone who is as fascinated as I am by the Bills’ complete lack of a true No. 1 wide receiver. Josh Allen remains incredible despite this roster flaw. The former first-round pick leads the NFL in QBR (82.3) and adjusted net yards per passing attempt (8.65), yet Allen’s also seen his passing yards per game average fall to just 203.5 in 2024. For context, that’s almost 50 yards lower than it was last season.
After four games, the only Buffalo WR that has over 10 receptions is Khalil Shakir. He’s also the lone skill position player wearing a Bills uniform that has even 135 receiving yards. Buffalo clearly has a hole that Adams could fill and this is one of the few contending teams where the 31-year-old could step-in and immediately garner a 30% target share. It would help his value. It would help Allen’s value. Everyone wins. Well, except maybe Dalton Kincaid owners.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
While nothing is official, there’s a chance that we don’t see Rashee Rice again this season, as the sophomore wideout was carted off the field during Week 4’s victory over the Chargers. He’s feared to have torn his ACL. It’s almost impossible to overstate how important Rice has been for Kansas City through four weeks of action. As things currently stand heading into Week 5, Rice leads the Chiefs in targets (29), receptions (24), receiving yards (288) and receiving touchdowns (2).
This leaves Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes in a situation much like last season. A barren wide receiver depth chart with one promising rookie, with Xavier Worthy now taking Rice’s role from 2023. It was a situation that left Mahomes putting up career-lows in almost every single noteworthy passing statistic, as he struggled to gel with a new group. It was also a reflection of the declining Travis Kelce, who did have his best showing of the season this past Sunday, but has looked underwhelming at best for most of September. Needless to say, a player with Adams’ skill set and pedigree would fit right in.
3. Dallas Cowboys
The fit here isn’t quite as obvious, yet that’s never stopped Jerry Jones from pursuing talent, which is why Dallas has already been connected with Adams. The Cowboys, unlike the Chiefs and the Bills, have a clear-cut WR1. In fact, they roster one of the top wideouts in all of football. His name is CeeDee Lamb. Dallas also has Brandin Cooks, though the 31-year-old is far from the elite option he used to be, now playing in his 11th NFL campaign. So, how would Adams fare with the Cowboys?
While it’s safe to assume that his overall target share would be lower than in places like Kansas City or Buffalo, it’s worth noting that volume isn’t generally an issue with Dallas’ offense. A year after leading the NFL in completions (410) and touchdown passes (36), Dak Prescott is not slowing down. Entering Week 5, Prescott sits third in the league in drop backs (162) and the Cowboys rank first in pass ratio (65.6%). This is a team that doesn’t trust its running game at the moment and there’s no reason to think Adams and Lamb couldn’t co-exist in an extreme pass-first environment.
