In the first offensive play of the game during Sunday Night Football, Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry exploded for an 87-yard touchdown. Before the season, everyone wondered if Henry’s time as an elite RB was over because he is 30. Through four weeks, Henry has shown that he still has the same elite ability he showed during his prime years in Tennessee.
Henry finished SNF with 24 carries for 199 yards and a touchdown. Although he hasn’t been known for playing a huge role as a pass catcher, he did catch three passes for 10 yards and a touchdown through the air against the Bills.
Through four games this season, Henry has rushed for 480 yards with five touchdowns while averaging six yards per carry. During his best season as a Titan in 2020, Henry averaged 5.4 yards per rush, which is the most of his career. Currently, Henry has 33 more yards than any other RB in the NFL.
Henry has scored 93 PPR fantasy points so far which is the third most from a RB. During the past two weeks, Henry has had at least 30 points. Before the season, Henry was +1200 (tied for 5th) on DraftKings Sportsbook to lead the NFL in rushing. But now, after just four games, Henry is the favorite at +350 to have the most rushing yards.
Henry has 80 carries in four games and is acting as the Ravens’ workhorse in the backfield. When the Ravens signed Henry, Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said that they weren’t going to use him in the way the Titans did. It is unlikely that he will reach over 340 carries like he did in Tennessee. But it seems that Henry will be a very important piece on his Ravens offense throughout the season.
Unless Henry suffers an injury like he did in 2021, he is in a prime position to lead the NFL in rushing this season. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens love to run the ball and now they have the perfect player to complement their star QB in the backfield.
