Top SNF Showdown Value Plays
Mark Andrews ($5,800)
Once mentioned in the same breath as Travis Kelce and George Kittle for being a top tight end in sport, Mark Andrews is in the midst of a perplexing fall from grace. The 29-year-old has just six catches across the first few weeks, mustering a measly 65 total yards. It reached a new low last weekend when both Baltimore backup tight ends netted catches while Andrews sported a goose egg in the receptions column.
The offense has tried to emphasize pounding the rock, but eventually, the aerial attack has to get out of the blocks. Zay Flowers ($8,600) has dominated the receiving share, but there’s plenty of opportunity for someone else to step up. Andrews has a longstanding rapport with Lamar Jackson ($10,800) and is too talented for this disastrous start to continue for much longer.
Buffalo allows the eighth most FPTS to tight ends, and Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken should prioritize getting Andrews involved often and early. Getting a player with such ability at this price tag is something you can’t pass up.
Rashod Bateman ($4,400)
The Buffalo secondary tandem of Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford has wreaked havoc to start the season, stifling opposing signal callers and receivers alike. I avoid suggesting targets on the outside facing this duo, but Rashod Bateman is a professional at getting open. The former Golden Gopher is among the league’s elite at gaining separation.
Bateman has paired his tremendous route running with strong hands and a solid build that, in theory, should have elevated him into a top-tier wideout by this point. At 24, he still has time to reach the next level but is held back by a lack of opportunity. As much as I preach volume, it seems like banking on his obvious talent has to pay off eventually. Even in a tough matchup, I think Bateman matches up well physically and leaves his mark on this contest.
Ty Johnson ($2,400)
Much of the backup running buzz in upstate New York before the season revolved around rookie Ray Davis ($2,800), but the veteran Ty Johnson has started the young campaign as the clear backup to James Cook ($9,600). The six-year veteran has emerged as a third-down vulture due to his pass-protection skills.
Johnson is also a bigger back and has seen some snaps near the goal line. Despite his larger frame, he’s improved as a receiver out of the backfield and has seen multiple targets in consecutive weeks. Johnson might be touchdown-dependent, but the way the Bills are moving the ball, that might not be an issue.
