DraftKings Showdown Captain (CPT) Picks
Josh Allen ($16,500)
Josh Allen is the best player in football at this moment, and it’s not particularly close. Sure, if there was an NFL re-draft, 32 out of 32 owners would have Patrick Mahomes atop their rankings, but in a 2024 vacuum, Allen is levitating above the competition.
The 28-year-old has always been a specimen, but now he’s becoming absurdly efficient. Fans attributed his carelessness to having to make plays for a Buffalo offense that largely lacked talent around its signal caller. Yet now, without All-Pro Stefon Diggs on the outside and more question marks at pass catcher than ever, Allen leads the league in QBR while completing 75% of his passes.
He’s the best dual-threat QB in the league because of his red zone share and ability to create a massive play from thin air. The Baltimore defense has yet to put together a complete performance and looks vulnerable on the back end. Allen is the obvious captain play in almost any matchup this season.
Lamar Jackson ($16,200)
The reigning MVP has had a shaky campaign three weeks in. Lamar Jackson isn’t the reason his squad is 1-2, but his passing ability has taken a step back. Does that matter when he is still the most dangerous quarterback on the ground in the sport?
Jackson lined up next to Derrick Henry ($9,800) has put defensive ends in a blender and created a dominant duo in the backfield. He’s already run for over 80 yards twice and has multiple games with double-digit rushing attempts. The added volume with his legs is too large to ignore, and although Henry takes some goal-line work away, Jackson’s positional value overcompensates.
James Cook ($14,400)
With Allen doing a Chris Paul impersonation and equally distributing the rock to all his playmakers, it’s hard to buy appropriate stock in a particular Bills‘ weapon. I always default to opportunity share and who has the most chances to make something happen, which means James Cook is the best roll of the dice.
The third-year pro hovers around 15+ touches a contest and is Allen’s premier dump-off option. Cook has a tantalizing blend of power and agility and clearly has the trust of offensive coordinator Joe Brady. He gives a safe floor with a tremendous ceiling.
