The Jaguars are still looking for their first win of the season, and their offense has not been very productive. However, with Evan Engram (hamstring) doubtful in Week 4 vs. the Texans, is Brenton Strange ($3,100) a good play at tight end this week?
Engram was originally hurt warming up for Week 2’s matchup with the Browns. Strange stepped in and had three catches on six targets for 65 yards. Last week, he got five more targets against the Bills, but only managed to haul in two passes for 12 yards.
Fortunately for his fantasy backers, one of those two catches was a touchdown.
Strange definitely has the potential to be a solid grab and play off the waiver wire at a very thin tight end position. His 11 targets over the last two weeks show that Trevor Lawrence ($5,700) isn’t afraid to come his way, and he has been targeted in the red zone in each of his two starts.
While I do think he has top-ten potential, I wouldn’t start Strange over a more proven option. He’s a solid insurance policy to stash if you have a big-name tight end dealing with an injury, like Trey McBride, George Kittle or Sam LaPorta.
The Texans have been pretty solid against tight ends in the early going this season, but did give up a tight-end touchdown last week vs. the Vikings.
In DFS contests, Strange is a solid value play based on his consistent work and is very affordable at only $3,100. He can even be a solid cheap flex play if you are stuffing stars in other spots for the NFL $3.25M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st] or other Week 4 contest.
Strange and the Jaguars are 6.5-point underdogs on the road in Houston this week, and Strange is +320 to score a touchdown.
