The Philadelphia 76ers are heading into the 2024-25 NBA season with a bolstered roster and high expectations. After finishing with 47 wins last season, the Sixers added All-Star forward Paul George in a major offseason move, positioning the team as one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers also signed Caleb Martin to provide wing depth and added Andre Drummond, who provides rebounding and rim protection off the bench. Veteran sharpshooter Eric Gordon joined the roster as well, bringing additional scoring and shooting. Philadelphia seems to have enough depth to withstand the rigors of an 82-game season, but also usually isn’t reluctant to make changes when needed.
Joel Embiid’s Health Remains Critical
As always, the 76ers’ success will depend on the health of Embiid, who missed significant time last season due to a meniscus injury. When healthy, Embiid is one of the most dominant players in the NBA. His 39-game season in 2023-24 raised concerns about his availability, but he remains crucial to Philadelphia’s chances of hitting the over on their 51.5-win projection.
Embiid enters the season as a +650 contender to win MVP on DraftKings Sportsbook, ranking fourth among all players. His presence on both ends of the court is critical, and George noted that having three stars could help reduce Embiid’s load during the regular season.
“I think I can help him get through a season healthy,” George said. “It’s about not putting so much pressure on him. We don’t want one guy to feel like he has to carry us every night.”

Philadelphia’s 51.5-win total reflects the team’s high expectations following a successful offseason. The addition of George, along with the continued development of Maxey, has given the 76ers a legitimate shot at reaching the top tier of Eastern Conference contenders.
