After the Buffalo Bills traded star WR Stefon Diggs in the offseason, everyone wondered who would step up and become Josh Allen’s No. 1 target. The third-year WR from Boise State, Khalil Shakir ($5,600), has become the Bills No. 1 WR three weeks into the NFL season.
Shakir has caught all 14 targets for 168 yards and two touchdowns while leading the team in catches by six. Each week he has been targeted more often and during Week 3 on Monday Night Football, Shakir had six catches, 72 yards and a touchdown. He has 71 more receiving yards than any other player on the Bills and he had 39 catches, 611 yards and two touchdowns in 2023. Shakir is on pace to have a breakthrough 2024 season and smash his previous best year.
In PPR Fantasy Football leagues, Shakir is currently WR17, entering Week 4 with 43 points. He has had at least 10 points in all three games so far this season. Before the season, Shakir had an ADP (Average Draft Position) of 128, according to FantasyPros. He went from being a late-round draft pick in fantasy leagues to a top-20 WR.
Although the Bills are 3-0, they have their toughest test of the short season this week when they travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens on Sunday Night Football. The Ravens have allowed at least 275 passing yards throughout their first three games of the season. That is good news for Shakir because he has been Allen’s favorite target lately. Allen is the No. 1 fantasy QB and to have his top weapon is valuable.
Shakir is a perfect player to start this week in your flex position, as he has been one of the best PPR WRs in the NFL this season. There have already been a lot of WRs getting hurt this season, and if that applies to you, starting Shakir in your No. 2 WR spot is a great option. Shakir may not have as much upside as other players, but he is a safe bet to hit that 10-point mark.
