As I’m sure you’ve learned countless times during each broadcast, Aaron Rodgers is the oldest player in the league. The announcers love to cite his silver beard or laundry list of accomplishments but never question his fantasy relevance—a true shame.
A year removed from tearing his Achilles, Rodgers has looked progressively comfortable navigating the pocket. At his age, it was unclear how clunky basic movement would look coming off the injury, but he’s done a tremendous job keeping plays alive with his feet. He continues to be a gifted scrambler who can contort his arm regardless of his platform and deliver accurate strikes downfield. It might be a stretch to say he’s back to his MVP form, but he’s not too far off.
Rodgers has yet to fully get in sync with his top pass catcher, Garrett Wilson. The latter has made a few mistakes throughout the first few weeks, and the pair’s on-field chemistry looks clunky. After trying to track down balls from the likes of Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle, I imagine the transition to competent quarterback play might be jarring at first.
Allen Lazard’s emergence as a viable second option has been a solid buffer in the meantime. After wasting away during his first year in the Big Apple, the 28-year-old has gotten back on track with his former Green Bay signal caller tossing him the rock.
Rodgers is a master of the play action, which elevates with a strong rushing attack. The backfield tandem of Breece Hall and Braelon Allen is already among the best in the league, as they both possess a desirable blend of speed and power to burst through holes. For the first time in decades, the Jets have an elite offense.
Rodgers might offer no rushing upside, but he is still among the game’s best pure passers. I expect him to hover around 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns each week, making him a top-eight fantasy QB in the current landscape. Depending on the matchup, he’s a must-start and, at worst, is an elite platoon starter. In DFS, I’d still lean toward dual-threat options, but Rodgers is a decent value if you want to stack up elsewhere.
