What happened to James Conner’s fantasy production in Week 3?

In Week 1, Conner rushed 16 times for 50 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three-of five-targets for 33 yards. In Week 2, he received 21 carries and rumbled for 122 yards and a touchdown, as the Cardinals dominated the Los Angeles Rams, 41-10.

So what happened in Week 3?

It wasn’t a playing time issue, as he played 44 snaps, good for 75%. In Weeks 1 and 2, he was in on 67% and 62% of the snaps.

It wasn’t a game script thing. Late in the second period, the Lions led by 12 and 10 points, but it was a one-score game the rest of the way.

The answer?

The Lions are really, really good at defending the run. In Week 1, they held the Rams to 3.6 yards per carry and 83 total yards on the ground. Los Angeles rushed for 22 yards below expectation. In Week 2, they limited the Buccaneers to 3.0 yards per carry and 70 total rushing yards. Tampa Bay ran for 13 yards below expectation.

Conner will be fine…for as long as he’s healthy. Be wary of running backs going up against the Lions, though.

Stan joined DraftKings in December of 2020. It was a glorious time, except for that whole COVID thing, when we got Madden streams and boisterous bat flips from the KBO. I was brought on board to bring some West Coast flavor. I especially love hoops, and most of my content is in that arena. When I walk along the beach, strumming my guitar, the beat that I hear is not one of crashing waves. No, it is the beat of the ball bouncing off the hardwood with highs provided by the squeaks of the sneakers. Ball is life.
