The 49ers are dealing with a myriad of injuries this season, but their offense has still been effective under coach Kyle Shanahan. In Week 3, Jauan Jennings went off and posted more fantasy points than any other player. Can he be counted on to be more than just a one-week wonder, though? He is set up to be in a very involved role for the next few weeks and should be the first name you look for on the waiver wire this week.
In the interest of full disclosure, I’ve been in on Jennings since last week, when I wrote him up as a great start option vs. the Rams. I also included him in my Waiver Wire overview for week 4. I have become a huge “Third-and-Jauan” fan and thoroughly enjoyed his monster performance in Week 3.
He started with five catches on five targets for a team-high 64 receiving yards in a solid Week 1 but only had two catches on four targets for 37 yards in Week 2. He was limited by an ankle injury in the leadup to that week, which may have slowed him down.
In Week 3, though, nothing could slow him down. Not only did he score a hat trick of touchdowns, he racked up 11 catches for 175 yards.
While he isn’t likely to keep that insane production up, he should continue to get plenty of targets in the 49ers attack that is without Christian McCaffrey (Achilles), Deebo Samuel Sr. (calf) and George Kittle (hamstring). Even as those stars work their way back into the mix, Jennings’ strengths as a possession option and target magnet should let him continue to be a strong play the rest of the season.
For next week, I have Jennings ranked as my No. 24 WR as he and the 49ers take on the Patriots. The Niners are 10.5-point home favorites for that contest, and Jennings is only $5,600 in DFS contests for Week 4 including the NFL $3.25M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st]. He’s set to be a top value again in his favorable spot against the Patriots, especially if Kittle remains sidelined.
