Suddenly the Buccaneers, who started the year 2-0, are third in the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook to win the division? I’m shocked that the Buccaneers have as long of odds as they do to win the NFC South (+310).
How did that happen?
Everybody is going to play a bad game or two over a 17-game schedule. They just happened to play one against a rookie quarterback who came in there and finally found his rhythm.
I still believe in Baker (Mayfield). I still believe in Mike Evans.
The Saints (+145) were hot for two weeks and then they laid an egg at home against a porous Eagles secondary. The Falcons (+170) are 1-2.
Give me the team that has a quarterback that’s comfortable, that has a really good target and has a good defense — and has a proven track record of winning that division.
Vikings Futures Market
Going back to 1990, teams who start 3-0 have made the playoffs roughly 75% of the time, so I like where Minnesota stands.
At this point, I would still lean toward the Wild Card (+190 on DraftKings Sportsbook) for Minnesota, rather than the division (+190). The Lions are good, and obviously, Green Bay is going to be very good.
I think we can get three teams out of the NFC North this year.
Comeback Player of the Year
I think Aaron Rodgers (+100 on DraftKings Sportsbook) still has the edge for Comeback Player of the Year because they’ve tried to clarify the rules after Geno Smith won it a few years ago.
I think that’s ridiculous.
I think it’s much easier to be great, have an injury, come back and be great again than it is to not be great, then become good. It’s way harder to transform yourself to being something that you weren’t your entire career.
Because of the clarification of the rule about what the award should be, I think Rodgers has the advantage. But, I think what Sam Darold (+300) is doing is way more difficult than what Rodgers may do.
Problem in Kansas City?
It’s concerning at this point.
Travis Kelce has been a non-factor through three weeks of the season. Yet, amazingly, Kansas City is 3-0. But if you’re the Chiefs, you just gave him all that money on a three-year contract extension, and he has produced next to nothing.
Now, they do have the Chargers next. In his career, he has an all-pro year against the Chargers alone.
But, the Chiefs need to get Kelce involved, and they need to get him involved quickly.
