Zach Ertz Start or Sit: Week 3 Fantasy Football Advice

The fact Zach Ertz is fantasy-relevant in his 12th season is a testament to his consistency.

It looked all but over for the 33-year-old when he got waived after an injury-riddled stint in Arizona. Signing a one-year contract with the Commanders seemed like the sad swan song for the three-time Pro Bowler. Instead of fading away into obscurity, Ertz is having a career resurrection.

His stats aren’t jaw-dropping: seven catches for 90 yards across two games, but his role has reason for excitement. Ertz has emerged as the safety blanket for rookie QB Jayden Daniels, who has struggled as a passer. It’s common for a young signal caller to lean on an experienced tight end, which bodes well for pondering fantasy owners.

The coaching staff has been very bullish on Ertz’s standing with the team. Head coach Dan Quinn talked about how his veteran tight end will “always” be involved in the red zone. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury harped on Ertz’s ability to get open and how he’s a present for an inexperienced Daniels.

This week’s matchup with the struggling Bengals is the perfect time to evaluate if the renewed hype is warranted. Cincinnati safeties Geno Stone and Vonn Bell are middle-of-the-road players that are susceptible to getting torched underneath. In DFS formats ($5,400) or season-long formats, the position is too thin to pass up this potential.

Final Verdict: START!

Xaiver joined DraftKings in August 2024, fresh out of the University of Oregon. The Massachusetts native was commenting on his sports video games by the time he could tie his shoes and fantasized about turning his favorite hobby into his future career. He might not have grown tall enough to be an elite stretch-five who could rock the rim, but this content-creating thing is a decent second option.
