NC State vs. Clemson Recap
Clemson was a 17-point favorite over NC State in their ACC opener on Saturday. Clemson struggled in a blowout loss to Georgia in Week 1 but bounced back with a dominant win over Appalachian State in Week 2. After a bye week, they were big favorites to open their conference schedule at home against NC State. The Wolfpack had really struggled to start their season and made a quarterback change to CJ Bailey due to an injury to Grayson McCall.
Clemson opened the game with a huge play when QB Cade Klubnik broke a scramble loose and went 55 yards for a touchdown. The Tigers never looked back and dominated on both sides of the ball for the rest of the first quarter. Thanks to some more explosive plays both with Cade Klubnik through the air and Phil Mafah on the ground, as well as a takeaway by the Clemson defense, Clemson broke out to a commanding 28-0 lead before the first quarter was over.
In the second quarter, the NC State offense finally got a touchdown on the board but they still could not slow down the Clemson offense. Clemson took a ridiculous 45-7 lead into halftime thanks to a last-second field goal. With that substantial of a lead, it was really just a game-management approach for Clemson in the second half. They scored both an offensive and defensive touchdown and led 59-14 going into the fourth quarter.
NC State racked up some garbage time points in the fourth quarter to make the final score of 59-35 look more impressive than it really was. This was a dominant performance from Clemson as they continue to assert themselves as a top contender in the ACC despite their Week 1 loss to Georgia. It is looking like a three-horse race between Miami, Louisville and Clemson to win the conference. Clemson’s odds to win the National Championship improved from +5000 to +4000 as the market continues to buy stock in the Tigers.
