The Jaguars lost starting TE Evan Engram to an injury in warmups before their Week 2 loss to the Browns, and they ruled him out for Week 3’s Monday Night Football matchup against the Bills. In Engram’s place, second-year tight end Brenton Strange ($2,700) is getting a chance to step up, and he is an interesting fantasy football find this week.
Strange was a second-round pick out of Penn State before last season. He played in 14 games but only had a total of five catches on nine targets for 35 yards and a touchdown.
He started last week in place of Engram and played 41 of 60 offensive snaps. He finished second on the team in targets with six, including one in the red zone and hauled in three catches for 65 yards with a long of 30 yards.
Strange is high-risk since he doesn’t have much of a track record and will be playing in the Jaguars offense, which hasn’t been very productive in the first two weeks of the season. However, he does have good upside since he will likely get significant workload.
If you need to grab a tight end off your waiver wire in season-long leagues, Strange is a nice find on the waiver wire. He’s also only $2,700 in DFS contests for Monday night’s doubleheader, which includes the NFL $1.5M Monday Special [$500K to 1st] (Mon). Strange is a great pay-down play at TE that will enable you to pay up for stars in other spots.
He’ll be in a favorable matchup against the Bills, who have allowed seven tight end receptions in each of their first two games this season for a total of 103 receiving yards.
Strange’s Jaguars are five-point road underdogs as they head to Buffalo, where Strange offers good potential value at +290 to score a touchdown.
