Two of the biggest British boxing stars, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, will go toe-to-toe this Saturday at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Dubois will defend his IBF World Heavyweight title against the former champion Joshua. This is expected to be the highest-attended boxing event in history, with over 96,000 people in attendance. 11 of the 12 fighters on this main card are all from England, with Josh Kelly being the lone fighter from Ireland. This event features two English stars who are at the height of their respective careers. This is one of the biggest fights in European boxing history. The last time two fighters from England headlined a PPV in their home country was in April 2022, when Tyson Fury beat Dillian Whyte.
Since losing the IBF, IBO, and WBO Heavyweight titles to Oleksandr Usyk in 2022, Joshua has been on the warpath. He is on a four-fight winning streak with two knockouts. AJ looks more dangerous than ever, and it finally feels like we are seeing the best version of him. Although Dubois is the champion, Joshua is the A-side in this fight as he is the bigger star.
This is Joshua’s third time-fighting at Wembley Stadium and the first time since he knocked out Alexander Povetkin in 2018. In 2017, Joshua beat Wladimir Klitschko by TKO in the 11th round at Wembley. This is AJ’s third fight in a row that is being promoted by Riyadh Season and the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, Turki Alalshikh.
Joshua’s previous two fights both took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the Kingdom Arena. The last time we saw AJ was in March when he viciously knocked out former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou in the second round. That was a huge marquee matchup, but now Joshua is back to facing one of the top contenders in the division on his quest to becoming the sixth three-time heavyweight champion. Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Vitali Klitschko, and Michael Moorer are the previous five fighters to reach that feat.
Dubois and Joshua share a common opponent with Usyk. Like Joshua, Dubois was also knocked out by the unified heavyweight champion. Since then, Dubois has stopped Jarrell Miller and most recently handed Filip Hrgovic his first professional loss. Dubois won the IBF Interim title that night and was elevated to regular champion after Usyk decided to not face his mandatory challenger and instead scheduled a rematch with Tyson Fury.
A common theme in Riyadh Season’s cards is that they are deep events that feature more talent than a typical boxing card. The No. 3 middleweight contender in the world, according to Boxrec’s rankings, Hamzah Sheeraz is taking on Tyler Denny for the European middleweight title in the co-main event. Sheeraz is undefeated with 16 knockouts and has won each of his last nine fights by TKO/KO. Sheeraz is a -900 favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Anthony Joshua is a -425 favorite in the Main Event, and Dubois is the +320 underdog. The winner of this fight has a great chance to face the winner of Usyk vs. Fury 2 on December 21. As we know, Dubois and Joshua both have lost to Usyk in the past, but another fight would have to happen if the pride of Ukraine retains his titles.
Willy Hutchinson is a +210 underdog as Joshua Buatsi is the -275 favorite in this highly anticipated light heavyweight bout. Hutchinson is on a five-fight win streak while knocking out four of his past five opponents. Hutchinson is No. 14 on BoxRec’s rankings but Joshua Buatsi is No. 5. Buatsi is undefeated and is coming off a dominant victory against Dan Azeez in February.
The winner of this fight would move right into the mix at the top of the stacked light heavyweight division. Dmitry Bivol is fighting Artur Beterbiev on October 19 for the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Title. It doesn’t seem as if Hutchinson or Buatsi would get a shot at the winner of that bout but a matchup with star David Benavidez is possible.
