On Tuesday, September 17, Topps dropped a bombshell announcement for NBA card collectors. A brand new set, focused around Victor Wembanyama, would be released. Topps Mercury would be focused around Wemby’s rookie season that would include autographed cards, game-worn memorabilia and inscriptions.
As if that wasn’t enough, this set would also include a dual autograph of Wemby and LeBron James. Only six of these will be made, which includes a red parallel out of five and the 1/1 Superfractor.
This set officially became available on October 9th, with Topps holding a drawing that would allow people to purchase up to 25 boxes.
Topps Mercury: Victor Wembanyama Box Details
We don’t have a ton of details on this set as of yet, but, according to Topps, eight cards are expected per box. All cards will be individually wrapped in foil and encased in a plastic magnetic case (One touch case). Expected in the boxes are the following:
- (1) Autographic-Relic card /99 or lower
- (1) Chromium Autograph Card /99 or lower
- (2) Chromium Base Cards
- (3) Chromium Base Parallel Cards /99 or lower
- (1) Chromium Insert Card /99 or lower
- Potential Bonus Hit Dual-Autographs (potentially included in 1:70 base card packs)

- Specimen SSP

- /99 Refractor

How to purchase a box?
On October 9, at 12:00 p.m. ET, a drawing for these boxes is expected to launch on the Topps website. Expect a MASSIVE amount of interest in this box and tons of traffic on the Topps website. For example, when Topps Chrome Basketball came out, it crashed their website. So, to help with that, on October 9th, a drawing will take place to purchase one of these boxes. When this box was first announced, the pricing was not released. However, several reports have surfaced that this will be $8,000 a box!!!!!!!!
