Jordan Spieth had wrist surgery and in August, but the former Masters champion told Golf Week that his goal is to be tournament ready for January 1, 2025. Spieth is looking to get back on track after a disappointing season by his standards in 2024, in which he made 13-of-24 cuts and only produced three top-10 finishes, including no wins.
The wrist injury clearly played a factor for the three-time major champion and his season concluded with a near last place finish at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which was the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Spieth didn’t advance in the playoffs and he is currently the 46th ranked golfer in the world. He finished last season ranked 15th.
Additionally, after competing at many Presidents Cups throughout his career, Spieth is not a member of the United States team for the annual event at the end of this month. The main reason for the former Texas Longhorn’s lack of success this past season was his ball striking, with Spieth finishing 128th in SG: Approach. So, hopefully after the successful wrist surgery and a long break, Spieth can regain his ball striking form when he returns in 2025.
If ready by his target date, Spieth may begin his 2025 campaign at the Sony Open, which takes place from January 6-12 at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. In five starts at this par 70, the veteran’s best finish was a solo third place in 2017.
