Justin Jefferson quad injury live updates

UPDATE 9/16 12:43p.m. EST: In his press conference with the media on Monday, KOC offered the following update on Jefferson, according to the team’s official website:

“Justin did come in today feeling pretty good, which was a positive based upon the initial quad contusion that happened on that run play,” head coach Kevin O’Connell said on Monday. “We’ll be day-to-day with Justin and we’ll keep you guys posted throughout the week on his workload and what it looks like for Sunday, but pretty positive in the early returns there.”

Sounds like Jefferson and O’Connell are both downplaying this injury. More info to come, surely, when the media has access to practice sessions this week.

UPDATE 4:42p.m. EST: Jefferson spoke with reporters after Sunday’s game vs. the 49ers, during which he suffered a quad contusion in the late-third quarter.

During his time with the media, Jefferson noted that he expects to play next week against the Texans, according to Andrew Krammer of The Star Tribune.

Some serious hand-waving, here, for someone who seemed to be in such writhing pain on the play. Good news for Jettas fans, followers, and fantasy owners everywhere.

Obviously, we can’t totally trust Jefferson’s word that he’ll be cleared for action next Sunday. We’ll be monitoring his practice participation closelyโ€”as well as that of his fellow wideout, Jordan Addisonโ€”throughout the week.

UPDATE 4:21p.m. EST: During his postgame press conference, Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell relayed that Jefferson suffered a quad contusion on Sunday. As of now, he’ll be day-to-day. The Vikings haven’t as of yet shed any light on the severity of Jefferson’s contusion.

This is obviously concerning for a Vikings passing attack that has, all calendar year, been decimated by major injuries. Sam Darnold has been a pleasant surprise so far as rookie QB J.J. McCarthy recovers from surgery to repair his torn meniscus. But TE T.J. Hockenson continues to convalesce on IR from a torn ACL/MCL. And, not to mention: Jefferson’s opposite wideout, Jordan Addison, was unavailable Sunday against the 49ers with an ankle injury.

In the third quarter of today’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, Justin Jefferson injured his quad and was removed from the game. This apparently happened when Jefferson was blocking on a running play . Speculation as of now is that Minnesota’s superstar wideout was blocking in the second level of the defense for Ty Chandler when an opponent rolled up on his leg.

Immediately after trainers looked at him and walked him off the field, Jefferson headed to the blue medical tent. He was next seen leaving the tent and headed straight for the Vikings’ locker room. There has been no official word from the Vikings as of yet.

Before leaving the game, Justin Jefferson had contributed 131 of the Vikings’ 171 receiving yards. This included the NFL’s longest play from scrimmage this seasonโ€”a 97-yard touchdown catch from Sam Darnold, which Darnold heaved from the shadow of his own goal post.
