Professional sports are a young man’s game, as Father Time is still undefeated. That said, experience carries a ton of weight and can prolong one’s career, or the lack of it can cause a player to struggle. We saw both sides of that circle of life play out on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Jason Heyward ($3,000; 29 FPTS) has had a long and illustrious career, and is playing in his 15th MLB season. He was a member of four different teams before joining the Houston Astros 14 games ago.
On Sunday, he paid massive dividends, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base, leading the Astros to the 6-4 win. Heyward opened the scoring with a solo shot in the first inning.
That bomb was launched from a pitch by Caden Dana ($6,100; -1.3 FPTS), who is only 20 years old, but has rocketed through the Angels minor league system. Dana had thrown seven innings and compiled a 6.43 K/9, 6.43 BB/9, 5.14 HR/9 and 11.32 FIP. On Sunday, he went 3.1 innings, struck out three, walked two and allowed five earned runs on five hits.
The Astros scored four runs in the fourth inning off three singles and an error.
The Angels scored one in the eighth inning on a home run by Taylor Ward ($4,300; 16 FPTS) then three in the ninth inning on a ground out and a single, but it was too little too late.
Ronel Blanco ($8,900; 19.9 FPTS) blanked the Angels through six innings, walking two, striking out five and allowing only four hits.
