The Commanders and Giants both lost in Week 1, and the NFC East rivals met Sunday afternoon in Washington D.C. Both teams looked much better on offense, and the close game wasn’t decided until a 30-yard field goal from Austin Seibert sailed through the uprights after time expired.
The Giants actually started fast with a touchdown on their opening possession from Devin Singletary ($; FPTS), but they missed the extra point.
Seibert made two more field goals to give the Commanders a 9-6 lead, just after the two-minute warning. The Giants got the ball back at their own 31-yard line and marched down the field on a strong drive engineered by Daniel Jones ($5,300; 20.32 FPTS).
At the end of that drive, Jones found Malik Nabers ($5,900; 31.7 FPTS) for his first NFL touchdown. The No. 6 overall pick in last year’s draft had five catches for 66 yards in his NFL debut last week, and this week he hauled in 10 of his 18 targets for 127 yards and this touchdown:
Before the game, DKNetwork’s Jeff Pratt wrote, “The sixth overall pick was on the field for 100% of the Giants’ offensive snaps and flashed serious potential with the ball in his hands. If Jones simply manages to not run their offense into the ground, the rookie should be due for a bigger outing on Sunday.”
Jeff was right on and Nabers had a huge game.
Late in the game, though, the Giants were forced to go for it on fourth-and-4 since they lost kicker Graham Gano to injury. Jones’ pass to Nabers fell incomplete, and the Commanders took their ensuing possession down the field for the game-winning field goal.
Washington’s new coach Dan Quinn got his first win for the Commanders, even though his team didn’t score a single touchdown. Jayden Daniels ($6,200; 13.4 FPTS) ran for 44 yards and completed 23-of-29 passes for 226 yards. Brian Robinson Jr. ($5,800; 17.6 FPTS) did most of the heavy lifting with 133 rushing yards on 17 carries.
Next week, the Giants head to Cleveland still in search of their first win of the season, while the Commanders will play on Monday Night Football on the road against the Bengals.
