Amon-Ra St. Brown has had a rapid climb to becoming one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL. After being drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 draft, with 16 wide receivers going ahead of him in his own class, St. Brown has been quick to outperform expectations.
The Lions standout tallied 912 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season. He then has eclipsed 1,100 yards in both 2022 and 2023. Last season, St. Brown tallied 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns. This ranked third in the NFL in receiving yards and tied for fourth for receiving touchdowns.
Heading into Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season, Amon-Ra St. Brown will be looking to get back on the right foot. Set to face off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, St. Brown’s player prop for receptions sits at 7.5, with the under favored at -145 odds. Why Amon-Ra St. Brown Will Go OVER His Yardage Prop vs Buccaneers
It was a slow start to the season for Amon-Ra St. Brown in the opening week. He caught just three of the six targets thrown his direction for only 13 receiving yards. This is the fewest receiving yards he has recorded in a game since Week 6 of the 2022 season when he was held to just one catch for four yards against the Cowboys.
Instead, it was Jameson Williams who led the Lions in production in the opening week. The Alabama product had a career-best day catching five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. Detroit also leaned on the running game down the stretch, tallying 163 total rushing yards in the game.
Heading into the second week, the Buccaneers are a perfect team for St. Brown to get back on the right track. Looking back at last season, the Buccaneers ranked 29th in passing yards allowed. They also allowed 100+ receiving yards to nine different wide receivers last season. Amon-Ra St. Brown was a part of this trend, tallying 12 receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown in his matchup with the team.
Looking at St. Brown’s track record, the 13-yard receiving performance was also an outlier. The Lions star recorded over 81.5 receiving yards in 11 of the 16 games he played in last season. He also recorded just three receptions which is a number he exceeded in 14 of the 16 games he played in last season.
Heading into Week 2, expect the Lions to make a conscious effort to get St. Brown involved. Detroit is a more dynamic offense when he is playing well and he is more than capable of delivering.
With an internal motivation to get him the ball, a defense that he has a positive track record against, and the impressive talent level that he possesses, all signs are pointing toward Amon-Ra St. Brown returning to the high-level wide receiver he is eclipsing the 81.5-yard receiving prop.
