After one week of the NFL season, we are able to learn a lot about teams and who they want to be this season. We also learn a lot about players, and who’s stock is heading up or down. Now we get to apply that knowledge to the Week 2 slate, with hopes of going 6/6 on player prop bets. It’s easier said than done, but that’s the plan. We have 14 games on Sunday and MNF to choose from, so there are plenty of opportunities on DraftKings Sportsbook to make some money on prop bets this weekend. With all that being said, below are my favorite prop bets for Week 2.
OVER Picks
RB Joe Mixon Over 70.5 Rush Yds (-115)
Mixon dominated in his debut for the Houston Texans in Week 1. He led the league in carries with 30 while rushing for 159 yards and a touchdown. Despite a ton of carries, his yards per attempt was still 5.3, which is more than respectable. This week, he faces a Chicago Bears defense that was stout against the run last season but struggled in that department in their Week 1 win over Tennessee. Chicago gave up 140 yards on the ground last week, as the Titans averaged 5.4 yards per rush.
Mixon is getting the volume necessary to hit this total easily, and even if he had half of the rushing yards he had in Week 1, it would still be enough to hit the over on this bet. I like Mixon and the new-look Texans offense to show out on Sunday Night Football.
WR Cooper Kupp Over 84.5 Rec Yds (-120)
As I mentioned in my Week 2 QB/WR Stacks article, there is so much upside for Cooper Kupp this week. Similar to Mixon, Kupp also got the ball coming his way a ton in Week 1, receiving 21 targets and hauling in 14 of them for 110 yards and a touchdown. With Puka Nacua on the IR, the passing offense now revolves around Kupp for the Los Angeles Rams. I think they will continue to force-feed him in Week 2 against a Cardinals defense that allowed the ninth most passing yards in Week 1.
I am all in on Kupp this Sunday, and I also think there’s a great chance he will end up in the end zone for the second straight week. On DraftKings Sportsbook, he is currently listed at -135 to score.
QB Jayden Daniels Over 52.5 Rush Yds (-110)
Up next we have rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who excelled in the run game in his debut last week. Although he struggled throwing the football, Daniels ran early and often against Tampa Bay, carrying the ball 16 times for 88 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 5.5 yards per carry on the day. Daniels was tied for 11th in the league in rushing attempts and had more carries than Isiah Pacheco, Derrick Henry, Alvin Kamara and many more elite running backs in Week 1. Although it’s unlikely he will keep this pace up, I still see this number as very attainable.
The Giants weren’t too stressed with dealing with a running quarterback last week when they faced Sam Darnold but will have an entirely new challenge to face this week. New York hasn’t been an elite defense in any capacity as of late, giving up an average of 132.4 rush yards per game last season, and started 2024 by giving up 111 to Minnesota. I have no idea who wins this game or what’s going to happen. The only thing I do know for sure is that Daniels is a legit threat with his legs. I would not be shocked if he hits this over on Sunday and then goes on to lead all quarterbacks in rushing yards this season.
UNDER Picks
QB Will Levis Under 194.5 Passing Yds (-120)
This is my favorite under of Week 2 for many reasons. For starters, Levis threw for the third-fewest passing yards in Week 1 against the Bears’ defense. The Bears aren’t exactly what they were in 1985 on that side of the ball, so to only throw for 127 yards on 32 attempts is deeply troubling. He completed less than 60% of his throws and averaged 4.0 yards per attempt.
On the other side of the ball, the Jets’ defense had a complete meltdown on Monday Night Football. The difference is, that was against a much tougher opposition in the 49ers. Despite such an abysmal performance from New York, 49ers QB Brock Purdy only threw for 231 yards in the game. Purdy is much better than Levis, and the Jets’ defense should only get better based on what we’ve seen from them the last few seasons. I really like Levis to go under this total, and I think the Jets’ defense will give him fits on Sunday.
WR Chris Olave Under 59.5 Rec Yds (-115)
This is probably my riskiest bet of the week given what we saw from Olave last season, but I had no choice but to take it given his output last week and their opposition this Sunday. Saints QB Derek Carr completed 19 of 32 throws against the Panthers for 200 yards and three touchdowns. It was the perfect game for Saints fans until you look at the box score and realize their best receiver was held to two catches for 11 yards. Not only that but Olave was barely targeted. Those two catches were the only two targets he got, and four other Saints players received more targets.
After such a letdown in Week 1, Olave now has to travel to play Dallas, who have one of the best secondaries in the league. Trevon Diggs is the star player in that secondary, and he held Browns star receiver Amari Cooper in check last week as Cooper finished with two catches for 16 yards on nine targets. The Cowboys’ defense as a whole was tied for the seventh-fewest passing yards given up in Week 1, making Browns QB Deshaun Watson look pedestrian at best. I think Olave’s tough start to the season will continue against Dallas on Sunday.
Carolina Panthers Under 1.5 Team TDs (+120)
After what I saw last weekend, this bet was a no-brainer for me. I had Bryce Young’s under-passing yards last week, and that cashed with ease. It’s now time to go back to the well with fading Young and the Panthers. This bet can be found under the “Team Props” section. The Panthers only scored one touchdown last week and tallied the second-fewest total offense in the league. Bryce Young was a disaster, completing under 50% of his passes and throwing two interceptions. The Panthers may have the worst team in the league, but at this point, there is no question that Young is a bottom-five quarterback at this moment in time.
The Chargers defense only allowed one touchdown in Week 1 to the Las Vegas Raiders, who aren’t a great offense. However, compared to the Panthers they look like the greatest show on turf. The Chargers’ defense should be able to improve on what they did last week, and ultimately I think they will be good enough to stifle Carolina’s offense. Barring a defensive or special teams touchdown for the Panthers, I just can’t see them getting in the end zone twice.
