Captain’s Picks
Dalton Schultz ($8,400 CP): The Texans have a great quarterback with great receivers. They also have a great running back. Houston has to choose. Do they go air raid or lean on Joe Mixon? Week 1 was Mixon. Houston ran a lot of double tight end sets. Schultz played 77.9% of the snaps and ran 28 routes against the Colts. He finished with three receptions on three targets for 16 yards. Stefon Diggs is an incredible red-zone threat. Defenses will have to pay close attention to him. Schultz is in a prime position to benefit from softer goal line coverage.
UTIL Plays
C.J. Stroud ($9,800): The Bears defense is formidable. Their Week 1 test against the Titans may not have been the toughest. The Texans in Houston is a much tougher matchup. Stroud was the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year, and he won a playoff game. That was year one. His sophomore campaign started smoothly against the Colts. The Bears are a tougher test, but he passed all his tests as a rookie. He didn’t just pass, he passed for over 4,000 yards and threw 23 touchdowns with just five interceptions. That’s not a passing grade — it’s an A.
Cole Kmet ($5,000): Gerald Everett ($2,400) outsnapped Kmet in Week 1. Will most DFS players look at the box score and fade Kmet? It’s likely. Kmet could come in low-owned. That makes him a significant pick. Showdown slates feature limited options and require differentiation. Low ownership alone is not enough. Picks need upside. Kmet was one of the Bears’ most productive offensive weapons last season, but will he be on the field? The Bears offensive coordinator took the blame for Week 1 and promised to run the personnel better moving forward. Expect Kmet to return to his role as the Bears’ No. 1 tight end.
DJ Moore ($9,000): The Bears could be thin at wide receiver on Sunday night. Keenan Allen ($8,400) and Rome Odunze ($6,400) did not practice Wednesday. Allen has been dealing with a heel injury since the preseason. He’s no spring chicken. Injuries linger. Pushing Allen this early in the season could be detrimental to the Bears’ chances in the NFC North and the development of Caleb Williams ($8,800). Odunze is a spring chicken, but his chicken wing, or MCL, was strained late in the Bears’ Week 1 matchup with the Titans. Both could miss or be limited. This should funnel most of the air attack to Moore.
Fades
Tank Dell ($7,400): There are too many mouths to feed in Houston. The Texans made it work last week. The matchup was soft and their elite receivers split the fantasy points. Nico Collins ($10,000) got the yards and Stefon Diggs ($9,400) got the TDs. Equity is not a common outcome. Winners and losers are the norm — booms and busts. A matchup with an impressive Bears defense leans toward busts. A Texan or two can succeed on Sunday, but it’s unlikely there is enough volume to satisfy Joe Mixon ($10,200) and the cadre of pass catchers. Tank Dell was spectacular when he was on the field last season. He also benefited from being one of the team’s main offensive weapons. Houston’s offense is loaded this season. Dell should develop in his second season, but his stats will likely suffer due to limited volume. His price makes him appealing, as does his potential for big plays. Dell will be popular, but the risk is too high given his limited volume and the tough matchup.
THE OUTCOME
It’s the age-old tale of a good offense facing a good defense. Who wins out? The Bears defense relies on turnovers. C.J. Stroud doesn’t turn the ball over.
