Saquon Barkley ($15,900)
Saquon Barkley was a revelation coming out of Penn State, but the immense hype early in his career rapidly faded due to nagging injuries and playing for a dreadful Giants’ squad. In year seven, now playing about three hours from where he started his legacy, the buzz is beginning to return.
Playing on a Sao Paolo turf that made most players look like they were stumbling back from the bar after a long night out, the 27-year-old looked at ease while accumulating over 120 yards from scrimmage with a trio of touchdowns. It was pure physical dominance, fitting for the once touted generational athlete. His carry in the third quarter, where he stutters toward the right guard, makes a man miss, gets skinny and cuts it upfield to the left while changing gears is one of the most mesmerizing reps I can remember.
With Christian McCaffrey placed on IR, Barkley is the frontrunner to claim the interim “best back in the league” belt. Not only does he look fully healthy, but he’s playing behind a stout offensive line that loves to pound the rock. Against a Falcons‘ front seven that struggles against the run, Barkley is due for another monster game.
Bijan Robinson ($15,600)
The captain of the hypothetical all-stars, Bijan Robinson, should be terrorizing defenses with his elite blend of agility and strength. After 18 career games, his career has yet to fully take off.
It’s easy to blame former coach Arthur Smith or quarterback instability, but some blame must fall on the former Texas standout. Robinson’s efficiency has been spotty, mainly due to his persistence in seeking out the big play. As a pass catcher out of the backfield, he’s been spectacular. His hands are excellent, and few are more dynamic in open space. Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is a schematic wizard who will do everything he can to help best utilize his superstar back.
The Philadelphia rush defense struggled in the season opener to contain the outside, where Atlanta thrives. Volume is the name of the game, and number seven will be in line for over 20 touches. His opportunity cost will have him in captain conversation for the foreseeable future.
Jalen Hurts ($15,000)
Philadelphia’s biggest hurdle as a franchise is navigating the Jalen Hurts roller coaster, but as a DFS option, he’s phenomenal. The two-time Pro Bowler offers a tremendous upside with his rushing prowess, but is guaranteed to make a few mind-numbing decisions each game.
The emergence of Barkley will diminish his red zone dominance, but the Eagles still seemed keen on running the “tush push” in short-yardage situations. With two elite weapons on the outside, the team won’t be shy of airing it out.
Atlanta’s rebuilt defense had a shaky start to its campaign, and they might need a few more weeks to gel together fully. This offense is a freight train, and with Hurts as the conductor, he is a weekly must-start.
