Through two rounds of the 2024 Procore Championship, it has been the beaten and downtrodden that have risen like a phoenix and been illuminated by the lights atop the leaderboard.
David Lipsky ($6,400; 83 FPTS), who had missed the cut in 13 of 20 tournaments this year, led the field by one stroke after Thursday’s round.
On Friday, he bogeyed the first two holes of the round, but rebounded with three straight birdies and an eagle. On the back nine, he drained three birdies before notching a bogey. He then finished the round with an eagle, birdie and birdie for another three-hole streak. Lipsky finished the round five-under and is now 12-under for the tournament.
Patton Kizzire ($6,900; 92.5 FPTS) had played in 16 tournaments this year and missed the cut in 10. He did have two top 10 finishes, though, and is in good position for another after the first two rounds at the Procore Championship.
It was an uneventful front nine for Kizzire on Friday, as he birdied the first hole, then went status quo the rest of the way. The back nine, though, is where the magic happened. Kizzire birdied the first three holes, then finished with three birdies in the final four holes.
He finished the round seven-under and, after shooting a six-under 66 on Thursday, now leads the Procore Championship by one stroke heading into the weekend.
In the $300K Sand Trap tournament, Kizzire is rostered on only 0.48% of teams. Lipsky is on 0.3%.
DK Sportsbook has Kizzire as the favorite to win it all at +500. Lipsky is at +1000, a marked improvement from the +2200 he was at after Thursday.
