This season I’ll be posting a weekly article on some of my favorite Week 2 touchdown bets for the games on Sunday. DraftKings Sportsbook offers a plethora of options to choose from and I’ll do my best to comb through the markets and give you some of my best bets to reach the end zone. Let’s jump into it.

Los Angeles Chargers at Carolina Panthers: J.K. Dobbins anytime touchdown +155
This is one of my favorite anytime touchdown bets of the week. As if the Panthers weren’t bad enough, news came out early this week that defensive lineman Derrick Brown is likely out for the season. It kills their pass rush and most importantly, it takes away their best run blocker. This is going to open up a lot for opposing running backs for the remainder of the season. Dobbins will be the first to take advantage along with Gus Edwards.
While the touches were almost dead even between Dobbins and Gus Edwards (+165 anytime TD) last week, it was Dobbins who ripped off 135 yards on 10 carries. Dobbins has a legitimate chance to have yet another big game, as the Saints ran all over this team last week for 180 yards on 37 attempts. The loss of Brown is going to be massive and one that’ll come up more in conversation over the next couple of weeks.
This currently has a game total of 39 points so it’s not expected to be a high scoring game but I wouldn’t be surprised if Dobbins reaches the end zone. The Chargers ran the ball exactly 50% of the time in Week 1 and with the likely lead, should do plenty of it again in Week 2.
Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars: Jordan Akins anytime touchdown +215
Akins is stepping into the TE1 role for the Browns after an ankle injury sidelined David Njoku. After Njoku departed, Akins quickly became a focal point of the offense. He grabbed three of his four targets for 27 yards. There will be plenty of concerns about the Browns offense overall, but volume is king and Akins could see just that.
Akins and Watson have plenty of familiarity as well. If you remember, these two played together on the Texans between 2018-20. If the quick interest in throwing toward Akins is any indication, I think we’re gettin a decent line here at +215 for him to score. Akins will likely see S Antonio Johnson in coverage, who was thrown at five times last and allowed three catches for 47 yards.
Detroit Lions vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sam LaPorta anytime touchdown +105
A high-scoring affair is expected in Detroit in Week 2, as the game total currently sits at 51.5. This total has been rising during the week, as on Monday it was down at 48.5. I like a bounce-back game from LaPorta, who caught four of his five targets for 45 yards against the Rams. He’ll face a Buccaneers team that was one of the most generous in the league to opposing tight ends. They were one of five teams that allowed over 1000 receiving yards to the position to go with seven touchdowns.
The Bucs pass rush looked good but they’re also going against the top offensive line in the league. The Lions did allow 10 pressure last week, but Jared Goff held his own in that situation. He completed five of his seven pass attempts for 90 yards and 13 yards per attempt. I’m banking on the Lions O-Line to get back on track and give Goff the time to throw. That’s when Goff is at his best and in a controlled environment. Give me that LaPorta anytime TD in Week 2.
