It is often said that you cannot have too many cooks in the kitchen. That’s why the Buffalo Bills only roster one, and he delivered a Michelin Star performance to lead them to victory.
The cook that I’m talking about isn’t the Alpha, Omega and Superman of the Bills, aka Josh Allen ($11,000; 9.76 FPTS). No, on Thursday Night Football, it was James Cook ($9,000; 28.5 FPTS) who sautรฉed and flayed the Dolphins’ defense for 11 rushes, 78 yards and two touchdowns, including another one through the air.
With the game scoreless, Cook leaked out of the backfield and was wide open for a 17-yard touchdown reception.
He was so wide open that the pass had a 91.7% chance of being completed and the closest defender was 7.9 yards away when he caught it.
The second touchdown came from one-yard out. Usually, it’s Allen who does his thing, but he was tired from last week, so he decided to let others in on the action.
With 3:45 left in the second quarter, Cook scampered for a 49-yard touchdown.
Per Next Gen Stats, Cook hit a top speed of 20.99 mph on this run. The play had a 0.6% chance of being a touchdown and Cook rushed for 42 yards over expectation.
For Miami, the big storylines were the play and health of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa ($9,400; 8.5 FPTS). He did not play well, going 17-of-25 for 145 yards and three interceptions. In the third quarter, though, he suffered a concussion after scrambling for a first down and lowering his shoulder for extra yardage. He was forced to leave the game and did not return.
The lone bright spot for the Dolphins was the play of De’Von Achane ($9,600; 29.5 FPTS). He rushed 22 times for 96 yards and caught all seven targets for 69 yards and a touchdown.
When Achane caught the pass, the closest defender was 6.2 yards away, per Next Gen Stats.
