For most things in life, straight is better than crooked. Driving from point A to point B, the most direct route is often the best. Straight teeth induce more smiles, while crooked ones do not foster happiness. For baseball, though, a crooked number on the scoreboard means a team has put up more than one run in an inning.
On Wednesday in Minnesota, the Los Angeles Angels racked up 10 hits and scored in four innings, but could only plate one in each. The Twins notched 11 hits but had two innings with crooked numbers. Hence, the 6-4 victory.
Taylor Ward ($4,300; 16 FPTS) opened up the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning on a 1-2 count.
Matt Wallner ($4,000; 14 FPTS) responded for Minnesota in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot himself to tie it up.
In the third inning, Nolan Schanuel ($3,300; 29 FPTS) sent a 0-1 pitch into the right field seats to put the Angels up by one again.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Twins scored three runs on two doubles by Brooks Lee ($3,100; 9 FPTS) and Willi Castro ($4,200; 11 FPTS) to go up by two runs.
Jordyn Adams ($2,000; 17 FPTS) hit another solo shot in the sixth inning to cut the lead in half.
In the bottom of the seventh, Royce Lewis ($5,000; 12 FPTS) hit what looked to be a grand slam, but was later changed to a double that scored two.
Schanuel drove in a run with a single in the top of the ninth, but the Angels traveled down the straight and narrow path, unable to best the Twins who took the crooked way to victory.
