It’s well documented that J.K. Dobbins is one of the NFL’s most explosive running backs…when he plays.
Despite suiting up for only 25 games over the past five seasons, the former Ohio State standout is still capable of generating big plays when he does hit the field. Look no further than Sunday’s debut performance for the Chargers, when Dobbins rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries against the Raiders.
Still, football fans might not realize just how dynamic Dobbins truly is. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted out some of the running back’s career stats on Wednesday night, and they are nothing short of spectacular:
While some of the numbers are more advanced, such as RYOE (Rushing Yards Over Expected) and EPA (Expected Points Added), ranking first in yards per carry and second in yards after contact per carry speaks for itself.
After game planning against Dobbins when he was a running back in college, it must have been nice for first-year Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh to hand the veteran Sunday’s game ball after a lengthy recovery from an Achilles injury last season.
A former second-round pick of the Ravens, Dobbins showed plenty of flashes playing under Jim’s brother, John Harbaugh. Unfortunately, after a solid rookie season, the talented back suffered a myriad of injuries that limited him to just nine games over the past three years. He signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with Los Angeles this offseason.
Given his difficult road back to NFL prominence, Dobbins has to be considered an early front-runner for Comeback Player of the Year. His odds to lead the league in rushing currently sit at +2500 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
