The incident involving Tyreek Hill and Miami-Dade police is still reverberating two days later after body cam footage went public on Monday night.
Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus joined The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz on Tuesday to share his thoughts on the situation. And his thoughts are those officers involved should not be carrying a badge.
“For me personally, I think that the police officers that did that to Tyreek shouldn’t be in that position. They should be let go,” Rosenhaus said. “Look at the guy that just kicked him right there, that guy should be fired. That’s out of control. The guy that jumped in, put him in a choke hold? There’s no place for a police officer to have a badge that operates like that when Tyreek wasn’t being aggressive or violent or fighting back in any capacity.
“That was horrendous how they treated him. They didn’t treat him like a human being.”
Does Tyreek agree with Rosenhaus, does he think the officers should be fired? Rosenhaus says he will let Tyreek speak for himself on that front as the two of them have not had that specific discussion. But Rosenhaus does say that he would recommend to Tyreek and his legal team that it should be something they pursue. Rosenhaus says Tyreek deserves an apology from each and every one of those officers involved and that the ones that abused their authority and power should not be on the force, in Rosenhaus’ opinion.
Dan asks what Rosenhaus would say to those who say that Hill should have been more respectful/submissive in the situation and simply follow orders? Drew says it is clear that Tyreek was cooperating with the police and even to the extent the officers felt he wasn’t his conduct by NO MEANS warranted the extreme reaction the officers brought to the situation. Rosenhaus says Tyreek is human, you don’t have to be perfect when you’re dealing with the police not to get arrested. He has rights, Rosenhaus says, and they yank him out of the car and throw him down for what? Have a little bit of patience, Rosenhaus says.
He goes on to ask what if this wasn’t a world-class athlete? And then when Jonnu Smith gets involved and almost arrested, Drew says the police have to have some awareness. These are Dolphins players, he says, that are trying to do their job, at the stadium. And Jonnu and Calais Campbell were trying to calm the situation down — don’t the officers have the poise as an officer to recognize who these men were and have a little communication?
