It’s been a wild offseason for Haason Reddick who is the only remaining holdout as Week 1 of the NFL season wraps up on Monday night. ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirms that Reddick will not play against the 49ers, and will continue to rack up huge financial losses.
Reddick was traded from the Eagles to the Jets five months ago in exchange for a 2026 conditional third-round pick, but he has not ever reported to his new team. In fact, coach Robert Salah said he has had no contact with him since before training camp.
On Saturday, when Saleh finally admitted that Reddick would not play Monday, the coach elaborated by saying, “I’ll stand firm that when he gets here we’re going to welcome him with open arms…He’s going to be a part of this football team and he’s going to help us win a lot of football games.”
Reddick requested a trade from the Eagles since he was entering the last year of a three-year deal that had him scheduled to earn $14.25 million. He was traded to the Jets with the hope of reaching a new deal, but the team has not met his demands, so he continued to hold out.
Under the CBA, his fines cannot be rescinded since he is a veteran. In total, he’s up to around $5 million for the time he has missed this spring and summer. Now, he’ll start missing game checks as well. If nothing changes and he sits out the whole season, his contract rolls to next year, and he is still under the Jets control in 2025.
When available, Reddick has been en elite pass rusher, with at least 11 sacks in four straight seasons. He started his career in Arizona before playing a year with the Panthers. He then had two successful seasons with the Eagles before requesting a trade.
After being traded to the Jets, he requested another trade earlier this preseason. There has been no reported movement on that front, either.
The Jets are +4 against the 49ers without Haason Reddick on Monday Night Football and the over/under is set at 43.
