We’re less than two months away from Election Day and in a tight race Tuesday’s debate between Republican nominee former President Donald Trump and Democractic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris carries enormous stakes.
Donald Trump had been riding high following a disastrous performance from President Joe Biden in the previous general election debate. That performance so rattled the party that it led to Biden’s eventual exit from the race and Harris’ ascent to the Democratic nomination. The Democrats have seemed energized since Harris emerged as the nominee, but the race remains too close to call. The latest New York Times/Sienna poll finds the two candidates neck and neck, so this could be both candidates’ best chance to make their case to the voters.
Tuesday’s debate is being hosted by ABC News and will be held in Philadelphia at the National Constitution Center at 9 p.m. ET. The debate will be moderated by “ABC News'”World News Tonight” anchor David Muir and ABC News Live “Prime” anchor Linsey Davis.
The debate can be seen on ABC, ABC News Live, Hulu and Disney+. The debate will also be simulcast on several other networks, including C-SPAN, NPR, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and more.
The rules will follow the rules set in the earlier debate between Trump and Biden, including the provision that microphones will be muted unless the candidate is speaking, which Harris reportedly is against. There will be no opening statement and a two-minute closing statement for each candidate. The candidates will be allotted two minutes to answer questions as well as two minutes for rebuttals, with an additional minute for follow ups/clarifications. There will be no live audience.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 5.
